fruit and veg suitable for dogs

  • Dogs do not have the enzymes to digest the fibres in fruit and vegetables so it is best to put them in a food processor or blender. You can steam them too.
  • Not all of them are good or healthy. Avoid any non-organic foods and any that are dyed, waxed or genetically engineered.
  • Carrots. Not only does it improve the dogs’ eyesight, but the beta carotene is a rich source in vitamins.
  • Broccoli. These have excellent properties for breaking down cancer creating cells and help prevent obesity. However do not feed themtoo much as it can affect the thyroid function.
  • Melons, rich in vitamin C, do not affect the thyroid and are completely non allergenic.
  • Celery. Excellent for heart health. Rich in calcium and irons and a powerful tumour fighting agent. Spinach is equally good.
  • Apples. The pectin in apples improves digestion, by strengthening the intestinal muscles, and is rich in vitamin C. Pureed, apples make a good base for dog biscuits. Pears are fine, too.
  • Pumpkins are ideal for dogs that need to lose weight because they make the dog feel fuller when they are on a low calorie diet.
