The Maltese is small and guaranteed to win hearts with their big, black eyes and cute button noses. That said, they’re hardy dogs that are much tougher than they appear. 

They’re adaptable, alert and fearless (all of which makes them great watchdogs), and are up for any activity. They barely shed, live a long time and do well with human and canine companions alike.
